If you are trying to connect all the components to your PC, and you are seeing the DRAM light to be on, there’s nothing to worry about it! Remember that there cannot be just any reason for it to be on, nor will it turn on all by itself! Here are some of the reasons for which you will probably see the DRAM light to be on:
What Does The Motherboard Light Imply?
Based on the motherboard’s manufacturer, and its model, there are a few that comes with the lights while others don’t have any! It is quite often due to a memory issue with your motherboard or maybe, due to a faulty RAM. A defective processor can be a reason though!
Some models may even have full displays available with them for quick diagnostics. Well, these lights simply resemble the status of the major components of your PC while booting. Some of these components typically include the hard drive, the CPU, the GPU and the RAM. The issue would persist if you have got faulty hardware too!
If you see the light, it is probably because you have some trouble with your system. The moment you get to see any of the lights turned on, it would certainly help you identify the issue at ease! Most significantly, if you see that your PC has completely blacked out, these lights are going to help you figure out where the trouble actually is!
When do you see the DRAM light on your motherboard?
If you see the DRAM light on your motherboard, you must realise that there is something wrong with either your motherboard or your hardware device. Here are a couple of reasons that may have contributed to it:
1. Having a Low Power Supply
Your motherboard and all the hardware components of your PC received the power supply from the PSU. If the power supply isn’t sufficient, you might get to see the DRAM light to be on.
2. Unstable Power Supply
If the PSU isn’t meeting the needs of your motherboard and its related components, the light could be on!
3. Wrong Insertion of the RAM Stick
If your RAM is not inserted correctly, this light will be on.
4. Incompatible RAM
If the RAM you are using is not compatible with the motherboard you own, you will get to see the DRAM light turning up.
How Will You Fix the DRAM Light On Your Motherboard?
You may find the DRAM light on, but there’s not going to be much concern if your system is running smoothly. The main issue lies when your PC goes out of order. There are several possible reasons for which you might be getting this error. Well, here are a few ways through which you can fix the same:
1. Figure out the problem
Remove all the connections from your motherboard. Remove all the add-in devices including the RAM, GPU and storage units as well. Once all the parts are disconnected, try to put them one by one to find out if your system is running! You will easily be able to figure out the major culprit in the story when you detect the light isn’t on.
2. Reinstall the RAM stick
If the DRAM light is on, remove the RAM from your PC and reinstall it all over again. The system may fail to detect your RAM properly if it is not inserted correctly. Use a blower to clean the slot and then clean the RAM before you put it in all over again. Make sure that the gap of your RAM stick is matching that of your motherboard slot as you install it inside! You will get to hear a ‘click’ sound to ensure that the RAM is inserted right. Put the RAM in a different slot and retry the process to see if there are any changes.
3. Alter the GPU slot
Try to remove the GPU and then reinsert it all over again. Use a separate PCIe slot if required and you can see things work all over again. Well, make sure that you are aware of the manufacturer of your motherboard before you try it out!
4. Change the PSU
Check if the cooling fan is working appropriately. If it isn’t set right, you will obviously have an insufficient power supply to your motherboard. In this case, you will need to have a motherboard with an ample amount of power supply to sort out the trouble.
5. Reconfigure the RAM
Your PC will automatically be able to fix the trouble when you press the button adjacent to the DRAM light on your motherboard. This will help you adjust the settings on your motherboard, and reconfigure the RAM accordingly.
6. Update your BIOS
BIOS is basically a computer program that is present in the ROM of your PC. This BIOS is typically responsible to start the OS and ensure that it is able to communicate with the rest of the devices on your motherboard. You shall find an icon known as the flash BIOS button present on the I/O panel of your motherboard. This will help you update your BIOS without requiring the CPU or RAM to intervene therein.
7. Reset the CMOS
Disconnect all the power sources from your PSU and reset the Complementary Metal-oxide Semiconductor or CMOS. Press the power button to disperse the charge left in your capacitors. Now, disconnect the battery and remove it. To ensure that everything is fine, start the PC and see if the DRAM light is turning up.
8. Disconnect all the cables
Remove all the connections and wires from your motherboard including its power supply. Disconnect the PCIe power connector, the GPU, the HDD and the SDD cables too. Allow it to be like that for a couple of minutes, or maybe, half an hour and then reconnect them all over again. Check if the light is on or not!
9. Upgrade the processor
If none of the before-mentioned solutions works for you, try out this! Changing the processor might cost you a lot, but it may help you get rid of the problem.
