AMD uses this type of PGA CPU Socket which is known as AM3 socket or AM3+ socket or AM4 socket in their processors.
Now, let us discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of PGA type CPU Socket.
The pins found in the PGA CPU Socket are bold in shape ,that is why they are able to carry more power or data as compared to LGA (Land Grid Array) type CPU socket. The breakable or brittle part of the pins in the PGA CPU socket are situated on the CPU. This means when it gets spoiled or needs to be repaired, you have to replace the whole CPU, which is a very expensive thing.
The LGA stands for Land Grid Array. The metallic flat contact pads are situated on the bottom of the CPU. This LGA CPU Socket or CPU slot are made by the grid of pins. You need to apply little bit of force to insert this kind of CPU in this CPU Socket. Generally, Intel uses this type of LGA Socket in their processor.
When it comes to replacement or repairing the CPU slot or CPU Socket, it is more budget-friendly to repair as compared to PGA CPU socket. In this architecture, CPU can pass the 32-bit and 64-bit data through this LGA CPU Socket much faster in seconds as compared to others. The only disadvantage is that the connector CPU pins are flat and more breakable which is tough to replace damaged once.
The full form of BGA is Ball Grid Array. Processor or CPU is attached to the CPU socket by soldering. It is a permanent installation. To dismantle the CPU from the CPU Socket, you need proper tools. The whole process is very complicated, you cannot do it by yourself at home. Generally, it is found in laptops.
There are some advantages to using this kind of BGA CPU Socket in laptops. It needs less space and is also more durable. But when you try to replace or repair, it is complex to do so because it needs some special tools and proper technician.
You can find the socket type of your motherboard using three ways, first by opening your pc case and looking for the socket, secondly, you can directly check from windows which processor is being installed on your computer, and third, you can use some 3rd party applications to find what socket is your motherboard.
You can detect or find the processor Socket type or CPU slot by opening your desktop. To do so, you need to follow the following steps.
At first, turn on the computer and wait until it properly boots up. Then, Right click on the Windows icon which is present at the bottom left corner and click on the search option. In the search menu, type control panel and hit the enter button. Now, go to system and find the processor’s name. Now, just google that name and find the Processor Socket type or the correct socket name in the search list.
Here, I am using AMD Ryzen 5 CPU in my system, that is why I search AMD RYZEN 5 3600 socket type and in the search list I found my desired answer. If you are using Intel Core i3 or Intel Core i7-8700k or Core i9 faster processors, then you can also search that and get the answer in the search list.
There is another way by which you can check it online by yourself also. Just check the motherboard box or the board labels and if you have lost that packaging box, then don’t worry we have another solution for that, which will work on both the desktop and laptop. Just open your system and run the Command prompt, then type this comment wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer and you will find the model name of your motherboard.
Now, type that motherboard model number or the product name in your browser and you will get the particular chipset CPU Socket type that the motherboard has.

You can also do it from the official website of laptop manufacturers like Asus, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, etc. You can even do it from the e-commerce website also. Or, you can install the CPU-Z application in your laptop and get all kinds of information from that.
